Data Backup Services

Local backup
  • Local backups are generally implemented using on-site storage devices such as removable / external hard drives or flash media.
Pro: local backups provide you the ability to manage your own backup schedule and have the fastest recovery time.
Con: you have to manage you own backup schedule. It’s easy for people to forget to change backup media or to continue to store the backup media in a fireproof safe should your facility experience a fire.
Cloud backup
  • Cloud backup relies on your internet connection and a subscription to a third party service provider where your backups are stored.
Pro: provide you the ability to manage your own backup schedule but don’t require you to manage the media on which the backups are stored. Backups are stored off-site out of harms way.
Con: generally, cloud backups have slower backup and recovery times. Also, can consume large amounts of bandwidth which could cost you additional money depending on your internet service provider.
Hybrid backup
  • Hybrid backups are a combination of local and cloud backups that may / may not need special hardware to implement.
    Pro:
gives you the fast recovery times of local backups with the security of cloud backup.
    Con: may require specialized hardware.
